Save The Plastic launched its first Education Outreach Program
On the island of Nusa Penida, in the middle of the Indonesian archipelago, Save The Plastic started its first Education Outreach Program to raise awareness about plastic pollution and marine plastic pollution, in Nusa Penida, Indonesia. Even though the program is created and adapted to all levels of audience; students, teachers, local authorities, businesses and general public, this first EOP was implemented in schools. The focus of the EOP is to bring an understanding of the global plastic pollution problem and its impacts on Ocean’s health with the ambition to achieve local actions. We believe that education and awareness at local level is crucial to stop the river of plastic flushing down into the ocean.
To celebrate the end of our first EOP we organized a big event for the local community and the students of five schools. More than 200 kids and various stakeholders joined us for a massive beach and land cleanup which was followed by music, free food for the volunteers and educational workshops. In only one hour more that 555kg of plastic trash was collected and disposed of properly at the landfill.
We consider that cleanups are the best way to visualize and experience through a festive moment, the reality of plastic pollution.
